Dermal Fillers
in Phoenix, AZ

Serving Phoenix, Paradise Valley, and Nearby Areas of Arizona

One key component of aging is a loss of volume under the skin where a matrix of collagen and elastin supports the skin. This contributes to the appearance of wrinkles and hollowness. During the beginning stages of this process, dermal fillers have shown to be very effective in rejuvenating the face and restoring youthful volume through quick and easy injections.

Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery Group offers dermal fillers for patients who want to restore lost volume, soften lines, and bring back definition without surgery. Our medspa team works alongside our board-certified plastic surgeons, so every treatment plan is guided by a deep understanding of facial anatomy and a shared focus on natural-looking results.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like injectable products placed beneath the skin’s surface. They are nonsurgical, typically require no downtime, and can be tailored to the specific concern you want to address.

Dermal Fillers Can Help Treat:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Thin lips
  • Under-eye circles
  • Sunken cheeks and temples
  • Marionette lines
  • Small chin

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers work by placing product under the surface of the skin to restore volume and fill in wrinkles. We offer a range of dermal filler options, each formulated differently and targeted toward a different type of concern. We want our patients to achieve the best results possible, so we can recommend the right type of filler for you from our wide selection.

Depending on the formulation, a filler may:

  • Add immediate volume to areas that have flattened or thinned
  • Smooth creases and folds by lifting the skin from beneath
  • Enhance contour and shape in features like the lips and chin
  • Support the skin’s own collagen over time, with certain filler types

Our Dermal Fillers Include

  • Juvéderm® Ultra: This filler is used to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. It is a versatile filler that can last 9-12 months.
  • Juvéderm® Ultra Plus: Ultra Plus is a more robust filler aimed at treating deeper wrinkles and folds, such as moderate to severe nasolabial folds.
    • Volbella®: Juvéderm Volbella® is a smoother, more delicate filler ideal for subtle, natural plumping of the lips, smoothing of vertical lip lines, and reduction of dark under eye circles.
    • Voluma®: Juvéderm Voluma® is a thick filler injected deep into the dermis in order to restore volume to the midface. It is great for lifting sagging cheeks and can create the illusion of high cheekbones. It can also help reduce nasolabial folds and augment the chin non-surgically. Voluma® lasts up to two years.
    • Vollure™: Vollure™ is the most recent FDA-approved product from Juvéderm®, and is longer-lasting than Juvéderm® Vollure™ can last up to 18 months and beyond.
    • Volux™: Volux™ is the first hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler specifically designed to be used in the jawline and chin. It’s used to adjust the proportions of the face and create a chiseled jawline.

Restylane® is a line of hyaluronic acid fillers that aim to provide natural-looking results. Original Restylane® is predominantly used to fight mostly against signs of aging.

  • Restylane® Lyft: A natural-looking volume enhancer that’s safe, effective, utilizes a dissolvable HA filler. Treatment can be administered in both your hands and face.
  • Restylane® Silk: Silk is the first FDA-approved product to help you achieve your ideal lips. This filler is designed for lip augmentation and for smoothening of wrinkles around your mouth.
  • Restylane® Refyne/Defyne: Refyne works best to help restore natural expressions in your face by softening laugh lines including nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Defyne is utilized to smooth out even deeper laugh lines by using innovative cross-linking technology to restore a more youthful appearance.
  • Restylane® Contour: Restylane® Contour is a cheek filler that helps improve the contour of your cheeks. It can give the cheeks and face more volume while maintaining a natural-looking appearance.

Radiesse® differs from Belotero® and Juvederm® because it is not a hyaluronic acid filler. Radiesse® instead uses calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in order to stimulate natural collagen production in the skin, thus plumping and restoring volume over time. Radiesse® can be used together with hyaluronic acid fillers for more comprehensive results and is a good option if you have significant volume loss throughout the face. It is also FDA-approved for use on the hands.

An FDA-approved injectable that has been used to approve cosmetic indications including moderate to severe frown lines between eyebrows, and facial lines.

This filler is used to smooth both fine lines and deep wrinkles in the face. It contains Poly-L-lactic acid which stimulates collagen production. After treatment, the acid is absorbed by the body, encouraging your cells to naturally produce collagen and ultimately, improving your skin’s structure and volume

Kysse adds volume to the lips to help smooth lip lines and enhance your lip color and texture. Specifically designed to ensure you maintain movement in your lips, it provides natural-looking results.

Types of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers fall into a few main categories. Understanding them can help you have a more informed conversation during your consultation, where your provider will recommend the option that fits your goals.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance the body naturally produces to keep skin hydrated and plump. HA fillers are soft, smooth gels that attract moisture and add volume. The Juvéderm® and Restylane® products listed above, as well as Kysse, belong to this category, and many HA fillers contain lidocaine to help keep treatment comfortable.

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers such as Radiesse® are generally thicker gels made of tiny mineral-like particles. They are commonly used for deeper structural support and are known for helping stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.

Poly-L-lactic acid, the ingredient in Sculptra, is classified as a collagen stimulator. Rather than creating instant volume, it works gradually, encouraging the body to rebuild collagen over a series of sessions for subtle, progressive improvement.

Common Treatment Areas

Fillers are versatile, which is part of why so many patients can benefit from them.

Lips and Cheeks

Lips naturally lose fullness and definition with age, and some patients simply want more shape or balance. Lip fillers can enhance volume, define the lip border, and soften fine lines around the mouth while keeping results proportional to your features. Cheeks are another area where fillers are often used, since volume loss in the midface can contribute to a tired or hollow look.

Under-Eyes (Tear Troughs) and Jawline

Hollowness beneath the eyes, often called the tear trough, can make people look fatigued even when they feel rested. The under-eye area is a delicate zone where filler is used with great care, which is why experience and knowledge of facial anatomy matter here. Along the lower face, a softening jawline is a common concern; chin and jawline filler can add projection and shape, helping create a more balanced profile.

Other Areas

Beyond these zones, fillers are commonly used to soften folds that run from the nose to the mouth, smooth lines around the mouth, and restore volume in areas that have thinned over time. Your provider will evaluate your face as a whole to determine where treatment will create the most harmonious result.

Botox® + filler: the low-effort way to look effortlessly fresh.

Dermal Fillers vs. Botox®

Fillers and neuromodulators such as Botox® are often mentioned together, but they work in different ways. Neuromodulators relax the muscles that cause expression lines, such as frown lines and crow’s feet. Fillers add volume and structure where it has been lost or where more definition is desired. In general terms, neuromodulators address lines caused by movement, while fillers address lines and hollows caused by volume loss. Many patients combine the two in one plan.

What to Expect During Your Filler Treatment

A dermal filler appointment with our injector at Mosharrafa Plastic Surgery.

Your experience begins with a conversation about your goals and what bothers you when you look in the mirror. Your provider will assess your facial structure, skin quality, and proportions, review your health history, and recommend a plan. This is also the time to ask questions and talk through what results are realistic for you.

The treatment area is cleansed, and comfort measures are applied as appropriate.

Your provider places small, precise amounts of filler in targeted areas.

Results are evaluated throughout treatment to keep everything balanced and symmetrical.

The area may be gently massaged or shaped as needed.

After your appointment, your provider will give you specific aftercare guidance. Common recommendations include avoiding strenuous exercise for a short period, limiting heat exposure, and not pressing firmly on treated areas for the first day or so.

Recovery and Results

Most patients return to work and daily activities right away. Gentle cold compresses can help with comfort, and following your aftercare instructions supports smooth healing and long-lasting results. If you have any concerns after treatment, our team is here to help.

Expected Side Effects

Mild, temporary reactions are common and usually resolve within several days:

  • Swelling, especially in the lips
  • Bruising at injection sites
  • Tenderness or mild firmness
  • Redness

How Long Results Last

Many patients see improvement immediately, with the final look becoming clearer once swelling subsides. Longevity depends on the product, the treatment area, and how your body metabolizes filler. In general, HA fillers often last from several months to over a year, with lips typically on the shorter end due to frequent movement. Collagen-stimulating products may last longer. Periodic maintenance appointments help keep results consistent.

What Treatments Complement Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are most effective as part of an anti-aging regimen using other non-surgical and injectable options.

Botox® is one of the most popular options used alongside dermal fillers to relax wrinkles.

Chemical peels and laser resurfacing can help address existing wrinkles and smooth the skin with regular treatments.

Additionally, skincare treatments like microneedling can help boost collagen production over time for greater support.

Skin tightening treatments like Venus Freeze™ can be beneficial if you have the beginning signs of skin laxity.

Regular skincare treatments paired with the best in physician-grade products can be a powerful combination in maintaining your anti-aging results. You can also opt for re-treatment with dermal fillers according to your specific injectable’s staying power. Our experts can recommend the right regimen to maintain your results and recommend the right time to consider surgical alternatives.

Am I a Candidate?

Because dermal fillers are so versatile, many patients can benefit from injectables. However, it is important to discuss any possible allergies or medical conditions so our injectors can select the right options for you.

Many adults in good overall health are candidates for dermal fillers, particularly those who:

  • Notice early volume loss, thinning lips, or soft wrinkles
  • Want enhancement without surgery or downtime
  • Have realistic expectations about what injectables can achieve

If volume loss and skin laxity are more advanced, our surgeons may discuss surgical options such as a facelift, neck lift, or chin augmentation.

Safety and Risks

Dermal fillers are widely used and have a strong safety profile when administered by qualified, trained providers. Choosing an experienced team that understands facial anatomy is one of the most important steps you can take to protect both your safety and your results.

Filler Reversibility

One reason HA fillers are so popular is that they are generally considered reversible. Because hyaluronic acid can be broken down by an enzyme, results can be adjusted if needed, which offers added peace of mind for first-time patients.

Potential Complications

Although uncommon, complications can occur with any injectable. These may include lumps, asymmetry, infection, allergic reaction, or, rarely, filler affecting blood flow. Reporting unusual pain, skin color changes, or worsening swelling promptly allows for quick evaluation and care.
